Dear Community,

This work is personal. The photo you see is more than a portrait—it reflects generations who built, endured, and thrived on the streets of Greenwood. It holds stories of strength, sacrifice, and the legacy that shaped who I am.

I grew up on Greenwood Avenue, eating candy from Mr. Cannon’s store, visiting my grandparents on Latimer Court, and feeling a deep sense of pride and belonging. What I didn’t know then was that Greenwood had once been known as “Black Wall Street,” a vibrant Black community that was destroyed in the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.

My father, Dan Nash, taught me the truth. He helped me understand that we were part of a great story of Black brilliance, resilience, and the fight for justice.

That truth and the urgent need to protect what reminded me to launch the Deep Greenwood Foundation.

A Letter from the Executive Director

Portrait of a woman wearing a green sweater against a dark background.

As Executive Director and a Greenwood descendant, I carry this work with a deep sense of responsibility. I do it to honor those who came before us, and to advocate for those still here. Our mission is clear: to preserve our truth, pursue justice, and build a future where Black families are supported, seen, and celebrated.

Through historical preservation, education, advocacy, and economic empowerment, we reclaim what was lost and lay the foundation for what’s next.

Every step we take is rooted in legacy and driven by vision. We are not waiting for permission to restore this community. We work with care and purpose, with our people at the center.

Thank you for being here, caring, and believing in what Greenwood still represents: power, pride, and possibility.

 In strength and service,

Heather N. Nash
